Our world was hit hard by a nasty virus that surfaced in late December 2019 called COVID-19 (also known as the Coronavirus Disease).
The word ‘COVID’ will be forever imprinted on my brain. Who would have thought a tiny little virus strand could affect most businesses and people worldwide?
Not only has our economy been financially hit hard but our health has been put to the test.
So what can we do protect ourselves especially our children?
#1. Practice social distancing.
#2. Wash our hands regularly.
#3.Wear a mask while we are out and about in public places.
Which leads me to the reason for writing this post …
What are the best COVID masks for kids to wear to protect their nose and mouth and why should you consider having them wear a mask?
I’ll cover those questions in the next sections below. My intention throughout this post is to provide you an honest and raw review of the best face masks on the market today for children (which adults can wear too).
I want to equip you with knowledgeable information so you can make the best purchasing decision for your child’s mask. 🙂
If you’re like me, when you click on a site you want to see the information you’re searching for first, so let’s get right into the best face masks on the market today for kids!
Then I will provide you facts, information, and resources surrounding our current circumstances with COVID and how this virus is affecting children.
The Best 4 Face Masks for Kids
The following child-friendly masks are my top recommendations for your little one to wear as a precautionary measure during this unprecedented time:
Kids Adjustable Size Face Bandana
Price: ==> Click here for the BEST current pricing <== | Overall Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars
If your child is picky about anything touching their face, this is one of the most popular face masks because of the breathable soft fabric.
The face mask has 3 layers:
- Outer layer (100% polyester)
- Middle layer (particulate filter layer)
- Inner layer (nano fine cotton blend)
The mask is made with a widened design around the jaw line to allow more breathing room and added comfort so you do not feel claustrophobic.
The premium soft material is skin-friendly to protect your face from allergies and pain. You can also adjust the ear loop for the perfect fit.
Cartoon Bears Cotton Dustproof for Children
Price: ==> Click here for the BEST current pricing <== | Overall Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars
I love how this material is breathable, stretchy, and comfortable. Again, let me reiterate ‘comfortable’!
If you have a child who is fussy about what they wear, this mask may be the perfect option for you.
The stretchy elastic strap makes it easy and ‘comfy’ (here I go using that word again) to wear, which won’t crack or hurt your ears.
It also wraps under the chin slightly which adds more protection as well as windproof.
Now the mask states it protects from dust which is totally fine. The most important aspect of this mask is it’s a cotton mask that will cover your child’s nose and mouth which is recommended by the CDC.
Size of the mask when folded: L 10cm x W 12cm (L 3.94in. x W 4.72in), strap length 8cm (3.15in).
Children’s Seamless Face Bandanas with 8 Filter Sheets
Price: ==> Click here for the BEST current pricing <== | Overall Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
This face masks comes with a breathing valve which has an activated carbon filter along with 8 filter sheets. The carbon filter will help remove bacteria from the air and absorb particulates on the surface of the mask.
Josh Davidson, MD, an allergy and immunology specialist in California states the mask, “may help purify the air around you, they likely won’t increase the efficiency of filtering our viruses”.
This is where the filter sheets come into play and why they will benefit you.
Nidhy Varghese, MD, a pediatric pulmonologist in Texas states, “Having a cloth mask and inserting another fabric or material for additional filtration and protection may improve the protection offered by a home mask,” she said. “This may be particularly helpful for masks made from loose fiber weaves, which offer little resistance to air flow.”
In all, I really like this mask as an option for kids because of the breathing valve, carbon filter, and filter sheets that come with it.
2 Pcs Kids Reusable, Washable Facial Cotton Covering for Children

Other Things to Keep in Mind When Purchasing a Mask
I have also based my mask reviews and recommendations for kids by taking into account the CDC’s five criteria they outline for the public to consider when purchasing a mask which I want to share with you.
The CDC suggests the masks must:
- Fit snugly (but comfortably) against your face
- Be secured with ties or ear loops
- Include multiple layers of fabric
- Allow for breathing without restriction
- Be washable without damage or shape change
How is COVID Affecting Children?
Children of all ages can develop COVID-19.
The GREAT news is the majority of children diagnosed will have zero symptoms.
As a mom to my 6 year old son, I was very relieved to read this!
However, if a child does test positive for the coronavirus, their symptoms will tend to be milder such as a low-grade fever, cough, and fatigue. Other children have had severe complications but this is VERY rare thank goodness.
The Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) is a virus which has caused a worldwide pandemic of respiratory illness.
This disease emerged in China in December 2019.
Symptoms include cough, fever, shortness of breath, muscle aches, sore throat, unexplained loss of taste or smell, diarrhea and headache. In some severe cases, it unfortunately has caused death.
It can be spread by person to person through respiratory droplets when people talk, cough, or sneeze. These droplets can land in the mouths or noses of people who are nearby or possibly be inhaled into the lungs.
Studies and evidence on infection control report that these droplets usually travel around 6 feet (about two arms lengths).
Why Should You Wear A Mask?
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention the use of cloth face coverings is an added step you can take to slow the spread of COVID-19 by those without symptoms.
The CDC states, “While people who are sick or know that they have COVID-19 should isolate at home, COVID-19 can be spread by people who do not have symptoms and do not know that they are infected. That’s why it’s important for everyone to practice social distancing (staying at least 6 feet away from other people) and wear cloth face coverings in public settings. Cloth face coverings provide an extra layer to help prevent the respiratory droplets from traveling in the air and onto other people.”
In addition, it is recommended the following people do not wear masks; children under the age of 2 years, anyone who has difficulty breathing, is unconscious, incapacitated, or unable to remove the mask without assistance.

Hi the Sisters, as always, you have created another great review about COVID-19 masks for kids’ top three reviews. kids mask. It’s quite a very value-driven review and enjoyable read.
This is quite a great post on every scale. the conventional tone, the facts, and figures well presented; and supported with backup links and quotes. I have gained some insight from your review of this incredible masks for kids. Everybody knows, that when it comes to children’s products, that extra caution needs to be applied to look into the materials used or ingredients if it is food.
I love the fact that these masks are comfortable, breathable, and stretchy. That’s awesome! Also, the seamless face breaking valve has a carbon filter. I tell you this is a giant business venture right there. With the way I see the utilities of these masks with COVID- or no COVID, the demand will still be there by parents for their children, for traveling purposes, weather-related issues, and games, etc.
These are protective masks any parent will gladly pay the cost to provide for their children, and the children will be happy to wear a protective masks that feel comfortable and breathable on their faces at any outing.
Another thing, I wanted to find out is about Hand Sanitizer. Does the same company produce kid-friendly- sanitizers, considering the chemical components of the regular sanitizers? My second question is how durable or what’s the life span of the these masks considering their dollar values? I know that in your discussion, you stated that the 2-PCS Kid’s mask is washable. I mean is there any instructions on the labels of how long they can be used before they lose their efficacy?
Overall, I’m glad that I read this valuable review. I will share the review with my contacts and mostly with my daughter-inlaw, to order them for my 3 grandkids.

Thank you for your wonderful feedback! To answer your question, the company who produces the masks do not make hand sanitizer from when I researched. A great kid friendly toxic free hand sanitizer I would suggest checking out https://amzn.to/2YDUuJ2. Here’s a great cloth mask guideline to reference regarding daily use and washing it https://www.avera.org/app/files/public/76696/cloth-face-mask-tip-sheet.pdf. The mask can last you relatively long if you keep it clean and follow the guidelines in the link I just pasted. If your mask starts thinning or falling apart then it’s time to replace it. Hope that answers your questions. Let us know if we can help you further! Thanks for stopping by and sharing your comments.

Hi Lindsey. This is a very pertinent point. Our children should be protected and these are some good options concerning masks. I was particularly interested in additional replaceable carbon filters. It’s always good to have them handy and you have me covered in your post. Thank you very much for this post!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts! We appreciate your feedback Paolo.

Thanks Lindsey!
I was curious to know does the activated carbon one been shown to be more effective? Thanks for the reminder about making sure they fit well… have you found there can be a difference with different sized faces? Some seem to me to be more adjustable, and have a fabric that “gives” seems to make a bit of a difference.
I think these masks look great, and it is important to make a good decision as they are somewhat expensive when you’re on a tight budget.
It is sometimes difficult to know when or when not to wear a mask, as in Australia a the moment, wearing a mask seems to highlight that you do have symptoms, as that is what the Australian government have suggested… to not wear a mask, just keep to social distancing when out. We’ll see how that changes as we experience a second wave now, and might have to review how we go about social distancing and delaying the spread of the virus.

Hey Jacquie! Thanks for sharing and for your questions. I like to hear different perspectives on how each country is handling COVID. It’s nice to see most do not wear masks in Australia, only if you are showing symptoms. I’m in the United States and when you go out most people are wearing masks or it’s required at some places too.
To answer your questions, the carbon activated masks can give an additional layer of protection (not to say it’s any better or worse) and some masks to fit differently than others. I have seen friends readjust the side straps by cutting and tying to fit the face of their kiddo. Let me know if you have any other questions I can assist you with. Thanks for your valuable feedback. 🙂

Great info! As a mom and Special Education teacher, I’ve been doing a lot of research on masks for kids. I have certainly bought quite a few due to this pandemic to make sure my kids and I wear them. They prefer to wear the surgical masks. They don’t like the cotton ones. As far as going back to school, we are allowing our special needs students to wear the face shields if they are not comfortable wearing the masks. Our school district is mandating that everyone on campus wear a face mask or shield and are subjected to temperature checks. They are not allowing the ones with the valve according to our public health guidelines. This is our new normal and I hope my students can adjust to this as they have been doing so since March.

Hi Dana! Thanks so much for sharing. I appreciate you letting me know what your children prefer wearing as well as the protocol your kids school is putting in place when it comes to masks. I’m going to start researching more about the face shield as well as the surgical masks!
